Description
So many corpses, so much devastation. Right here on this spot, not long ago, it seems that some army or collection of souls, bent on breeching the fortified walls of this ancient fortress of power, having thrown everything they had into this endeavour, well, it seems that ultimately, they failed, and met their demise on the scorched and cracked grounds beyond the surrounding moat. What made them feel such sacrifice a necessity?
Encounter Hook
Arriving at the scene of a recent siege, the party may spot guards peering down at it from the battlements across the moat. They don't appear to be training any weapons on the party. They simply stand watch. Maybe the more perceptive in the party might spot one of those guards trading a bet with a fellow guard, before grinning. And yes, that's when the corpses peppering the battleground on which the party stands begin to shift a little. Something is making those corpses waken.
