Description
An archaeological dig site next to the house of Caelel and his family of well-loved excavationists at the edge of town, appears to have destabilised, the underlying rock having fallen away, revealing a suspended platform, below which revolves a pulsating orb of some sort. It may be inter-planar, or borne from ancient arcane magicks. Looking down, it seems as though the walls surrounding the platform and below have fallen away, revealing beyond some kind of shifting vortex, existing perhaps in another dimension altogether. Overlooking this opening is a large statue of an eye, the pupil and various other eyestalks in which begin to shift, tracing the movement of anyone or, any thing, nearby.
Encounter Hook
The party might learn two things about this dig site. First, Caelel and his family have gone missing. Second, this large statue was definitely not there the last time anyone looked. Evidently, the family had moved here years ago and had been excavating the site ever since, thought to be the location of fabled bone fragments seemingly not of this world. If the party investigates and disturbs the dig site, the eye statue guards it brutally with powerful rays, the orb might then dull, an inter-planar maelstrom swirling up with this barrier between dimensions disturbed, the platform breaking apart as beings and creatures are dragged here from somewhere else, before the maelstrom settles at the hand of an unknown force, a broken surface left behind whilst the party continues its battle, but a dark pit in the middle of the surface then emitting a red light from below, and desperate cries for help.
