Description
Every noise echoes back in the depths of these caverns, disorienting those foolish enough to pause and listen. A low mist snakes across the floors, masking the reason why each footfall is acknowledged by a squelch and a sinking sensation. These corridors and chambers haven't been disturbed in what seems like eons, cobwebs clawing at every shift in movement, each intake of stale air feeling ominous. Every chamber welcomes those who enter with almost supernatural energy, as a myriad of colour from pits, fountains, lamps and more interrupts the otherwise drab surroundings. What was this place?
Encounter Hook
Merely treading these caverns may prove challenging. The arcane energies sustaining what may otherwise have crumbled years ago, reach out to the party with every step, sensing disturbance, desecration even. Any weak-minded in the party may feel drawn to the dangers posed by the objects and furnishings in the chambers, from which may emerge all manner of mutated beings, the entire caverns simply the beginning of a long journey deeper into the mind palace of an ancient archmage, whose remains await awakening by those skilled enough to survive.
