Jungle Lair of Ortylia Map Pack

At the centre of a clearing in the jungle or woods sits a curious well, within which rests a intricately decorated stone sphere. As the party approaches, perhaps following some investigation and triggered glyphs, the sphere rises and rotates, the well dematerialising, before the sphere slams down and cracks the surface of the clearing. The grass then begins to vanish, revealing an surface of glass, and from the gradually disappearing sphere which is now lodged in the glass, cracks start to form, until the glass ultimately shatters, revealing in turn a set of cracked ruins below, the lair, perhaps, of some ancient creature.

Encounter Hook

During this process, skittering across the glass as it cracks and breaks, the party might encounter small lair guardians formed by the shards of broken glass, and if the party survives their attention and the gradual shattering of the surface on which it stands, it will find itself alone in these ruins. Although at first glance, the ruins might appear restful, even conveying temporary boons to the party, this is no place of relaxation, for it isn't long before Ortylia, the ancient and until now undisturbed mistress of this realm, might rise from the waters below and make the party regret this deconsecration of her home.
