Description
It might seem like the party has entered the depths of hell, given the flow of lava and structures built around pain, but this, in fact, is the lair of an ancient red dragon. Spanning the bubbling lava is a bridge of rock, with passages leading off into torture chambers and shrines for worship, this terrifying being surveying those foolish to tread into this oppressive chasm within a far-off, volcanic mountain.
Encounter Hook
The crushing flow of lava provides a brutal foresight of where the party might end up if they don't proceed with care. The dragon knows they are here, that much is evident, but she is distracted, perhaps, with matters of more import, and so leaves the party to her minions who begin to swarm up and down the rock until they close in the party from both sides of the stone bridge.
