Description
From the ruins of an ancient structure at the outskirts of town, steps beyond a locked door lead down into a network of crypt-like corridors. These corridors lead in various directions, not least deeper underground and into a complex myriad of tunnels that must lead somewhere dark, but also, via an otherwise mundane doorway locked with arcane magicks, through to a corridor which opens up to reveal a huge interplanar gate, activated as soon as the party moves forward. Where it leads might be a mystery, but the rumours which may have led the party down here convey the name of this gate and talk of brave souls who have entered, never to return.
Encounter Hook
Of course, although an ancient portal of this nature may have remained undisturbed and untouched for many a year, this is not to say it remains unguarded. As the door creaks open to this musty network of corridors, movement is heard. Movement within the walls, from beneath the cracked ground, echoing as whatever lurks in this dark, mist-snaked place begins to approach. Those souls who have never returned, did they even reach the gate?...
